The Geology Explorer Project has always proceeded in two
versions: text-based and graphical.

Text-based Version
The text-based version of Planet Oit has been under development since the summer of 1997. This version contains all of the elements described above. The text-based world is where that we implement and test innovations and experiment with new pedagogical approaches.
- You can view a transcript of a visit to Planet Oit, or
- You can use the text-based client software to visit the planet yourself.
Graphical Version
The graphical version of Planet Oit is under prototype development. Because of the cost of developing graphics (and the cost of throwing them away and re-doing them), we choose to design and test in the text-based version before migrating new elements to the graphical version. Thus, the two versions progress in parallel, with the graphical always following the text-based.
- You can view a screen capture of the graphical prototype, or
- You can use the graphical client software to visit the planet yourself.
